Murdoch Mysteries

I reviewed the upcoming Citytv series Murdoch Mysteries, and was disappointed, despite my inexplicable crush on leading man Yannick Bisson. I mean, I watched more than one episode of Sue Thomas, F.B. Eye for him, and this show didn’t impress me much more than that one:

  • TV Review: Murdoch Mysteries Puts CSI Techniques in a Time Machine
“Unfortunately, the first episode isn’t a strong start to the series. Murdoch himself fades into the background, overshadowed by a bizarre guest character — the real-life eccentric Nikola Tesla — and a romantic subplot involving his young sidekick, Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris). Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy of Durham County), one of Murdoch’s few supporters in the police department, is likewise given little to do but reveal autopsy results.” Read more.

Ah, come on, you must admit this show has at least great promise! I actually found the pilot quite refreshing. The period-science elements were very well-executed and intriguing.

    Must I? 😉

I also found the premise refreshing and different from the crime/detective shows of today. Stop looking at technical aspects, and start just enjoying a show for what it is! I for one will be watching this show every week, as I hope many other people will too.

Technical aspects like how I technically didn’t enjoy it? OK then. I hope many other people watch it too, but it’s a little ridiculous to try to persuade me that I actually like it, despite all evidence to the contrary.

I don’t think you’re alone in your crush on Yannick Bisson.

I tuned into tonight’s episode of Murdoch Mysteries just for him. 😀

I think the Murdoch Mysteries is good old fashioned detective entertainment. I watch it in the UK on UKTV Drama every Tuesday evening and it is essential viewing for the family. When I first saw it advertised I thought it was a British show but finding out it was Canadian made me want to watch it even more. I can’t wait for the next season. By the way, does anyone know if you can get the Peter Outbridge feature films of Murdoch on DVD? If so, from where? Best wishes from the UK. Happy St George’s Day.
